Laying out the F-holes on Juliet. Juliet’s model is from Steve Sirrs CAT scan of the Betts Strad. These F-hole printouts came straight from the Betts model. There was a little distortion due to the flat printout and the actual plate arching, but the fit is pretty good! Maybe next time I’ll have my apprentice CNC machine ‘print’ the template with the actual curve. For now I prefer the knife, I like to feel the grain, the curves of the f-hole, the sound of the wood, the soul of a new violin

Video of Gregory Singer playing George. This morning I met with Gregory Singer of Gregory Singer Fine Violins, http://www.singerviolins.com/. I had made an appointment through his shop manager Yoshiko Kamiya who I met a Riverside Orchestra rehearsal. Gregory was most gracious, giving me over an hourof his precious time. He played Violins Helena and George alternating between his Italian violin. And a real treat of hearing him alternate playing between my violins, a Maggini, and a Filius Andreae (I might as well be compared with and target the best:-)). To briefly summarize Gregory’s assesment of Helena and George, “These are professional violins”. During the hour Gregory and Yoshiko examined the workmanship, the varnish, and of course the tone. Gregory really liked the tonal quality of both violins. Today I’m a very happy violin maker
