This post shows a finger plan used while thinning the spruce top plate.

When

I took his photo while I took a breather from planing the top plate.  This process defines the final thickness of the top plate. The top plate is spruce.  Spruce works a bit like a drum head in vibrating the violin sound. When finished the plate thickness will be between 2.9 and 3.5mm.
